In this version of the I-Ching, you'll notice that duck graphics and short Duckie stories accompany each hexagram. But why ducks? Why inject humor into something traditionally considered profound and serious?
Levity and the Power of Laughter
When it comes to navigating life's changes, it's often helpful to lighten up. Change is best approached with levity—when you're able to laugh, have fun, and think of yourself as a funny character in a divine comedy, transformation becomes easier. My personal experience: when I work with clients, sometimes the energy doesn't move until I get them to laugh, at which point powerful shifts happen.
Ducks, to me, are funny and entertaining creatures, which is why I chose the character Duckie to inject some humor into the I-Ching.
People who've used this version of the I-Ching have shared how much they laugh at the Duckie pictures. They’ve found that these images lighten the mood, especially when they're nervous about the outcome of their divination or attached to a particular result. Instead of dreading "homework" from the I-Ching, the duck theme turns it into a fun adventure, something more like an exciting journey than a difficult task.
Modern Parables for Modern Times
In ancient China, the I-Ching used parables that were understandable to people at the time. However, these stories made sense in a specific time and place. Today, many of those ancient parables are difficult to grasp without deep scholarly study, requiring textual exegesis and expert interpretations. This has made the I-Ching less accessible to the average person, who often has to rely on experts to interpret it for them—creating a layer of second-hand information.
The Duckie stories are my solution to this issue. They are modern parables designed to help you directly understand the energy behind each hexagram through relatable, everyday experiences. In these stories, Duckie finds herself in 64 different situations, mirroring the energies of the hexagrams.
For example, in hexagram 14 (Wide Open Path for Fast Movement), Duckie is riding a rocket—something the ancients couldn't have imagined but is instantly familiar to us today. It’s a vivid way to convey the fast-paced, fiery energy of the hexagram.
Similarly, in hexagram 51 (Letting the Universe Show the Way), Duckie is in a spacesuit. The spacesuit represents exploring the unknown, helping readers grasp the idea of venturing into uncharted territory with trust.
Reconnecting with the Source Energies of the I-Ching
While ancient parables effectively communicated the I-Ching's wisdom to its original audience, they are no longer as accessible to modern readers without expert mediation. This reliance on experts creates a distance between the reader and the I-Ching's source energies.
When I re-channeled the I-Ching, I wanted to remove that distance. By updating its language, symbols, and energies, I sought to bring readers directly to the source—allowing you to engage with the I-Ching in a way that feels immediate, personal, and unfiltered by second-hand interpretations.
Through this re-channeling, I'm also showing you that you can do the same—connect directly to the energies of the I-Ching, discern the guidance for yourself, and tap into first-hand source information. The Duckie stories and modern imagery are just tools to help facilitate this connection.

Relevance in the Present Moment
Just as the ancient parables of the I-Ching have become difficult to understand over time, the Duckie stories may one day become incomprehensible to future generations. A thousand years from now, people might ask, "What are spacesuits? We just teleport through space!"
But that’s okay—these stories are meant to serve their purpose in the present moment. They are designed to communicate the teachings of the I-Ching to the audience of today, using modern language and symbols that resonate with contemporary readers. For now, they bridge the gap between timeless wisdom and modern understanding, making the I-Ching accessible and relevant for this time and place.
Duckie
Duckie is a friendly duck who loves sharing her little adventures to help people better understand what they may be going through in life, so that they can feel more aligned with the timeless wisdom of the I-Ching.
